For orders shipping to the United States, we work with Canada Post and Zonos to obtain a duty and tax quote before your package ships. Once we have the quoted amount, our team will contact you to collect the duties and taxes before shipping. All Other International Orders

If you wear your shin guard over the skate tongue, round your measurement up to the next whole number. For example, 13.2" becomes 14". Unlike other goalie gear, sizing for growth is not recommended — it compromises protection. The good news is that masks naturally expand over time, providing more room for a growing head.

Step 1: Determine Your Size

When measuring head circumference, wrap a soft tape measure approximately 1" above the eyebrows and keep it parallel to the "hat line" around the entire head. If using hat sizes, use those of fitted hats that are not overly tight or loose.

Step 2: Check the Fit

Once you've selected a size, check these four key parameters:

1. Forehead & WindowThe top edge of the cage window should sit approximately 1" above the eyebrows. The sweatband inside the mask should rest directly on the skin with no gaps between the mask and forehead.

2. BackplateThe backplate should fit snugly against the back of the head, and its edges should not extend beyond the edges of the mask's shell. This minimizes gaps at the back and keeps the head secure inside the mask. If all other parameters are met, the backplate extending slightly beyond the shell is not a major concern.

3. Chin CupThe chin cup should be tightened securely against the chin to prevent the mask from shifting up and down.

4. Temples & CheeksThe temples and cheeks should fit snugly against the foam with little to no visible gaps on either side of the head. This prevents the mask from shifting side to side.

Step 3: Test the Fit

Once all parameters are met, test the mask's stability. Grab the cage and shake it back and forth. If the mask forces your head to move rather than the mask moving on your head, you've achieved a great fit.

Ongoing Maintenance

It's important to recheck the fit every few months. Over time, compressed foams, dented cages, and stretched harnesses can cause the mask to loosen, reducing its protective effectiveness.

Wrist StrapThe wrist strap should go directly across the wrist bone with little to no interference with the chest protector. The goalie should be able to swivel their wrist freely to accommodate a full range of save selections without any restriction from the chest protector.

You'll need two measurements:

1. Ankle to knee: Measure from your outer ankle bone (mid-ankle) to the middle of your kneecap. This determines your base pad size using the sizing chart on the product page — this is the size without the plus (+) sizing.
2. Knee to thigh: Measure from the middle of your kneecap to mid-thigh. This gives you a rough idea of the plus (+) size measurement you'll need. Your skate size, level of play, and potential growth are also factors to consider when selecting the plus size.

Step 2: Position the Knee in the Knee Stack

The knee placement in the knee stack is the most important part of the fit:

For growing goalies (all sizes):

• The center of your knee should sit approximately 1.5 inches below the middle of the knee stack for Senior pads
• For Intermediate, Junior, or Youth pads, aim for approximately 1 inch below the center of the knee stack
• This provides room for growth while maintaining proper pad control

For goalies near or done growing:

• Aim to land directly in the middle of the knee stack
• This is considered the perfect fit — it provides the best pad control and evenly distributes your weight throughout the pad while in the butterfly position

Step 3: Check the Overall Fit

When trying on leg pads, check the following:

• The pad should track smoothly with your leg movements without excessive rotation
• The knee should feel secure and locked into the knee stack
• Check integration with your goalie pants — the knee wing should rest comfortably on the inside edge of the knee with the pant terminating above
• Test your butterfly, recovery, and lateral movements to ensure full range of motion

• Growth potential — leave room if still growing, but don't oversize
• Level of play — it is highly recommended that elite goalies or those who play frequently invest in high-quality pads for better performance and durability
• Personal preference — sizing charts are for reference, and some goalies prefer a slightly different fit based on their style of play

The Boot (Quarter Package)

More advanced inline skates use composite materials for a stiffer boot, offering better performance and durability. Higher-end models also come with improved liners — single or dual-layered — for added protection and a more comfortable fit.

The Chassis

The chassis attaches to the bottom of the boot and holds the wheels, playing a similar role to the holder on an ice hockey skate. Chassis are typically made from lightweight, durable aluminum and steel. As you move up in model level, the chassis becomes lighter and more durable, improving energy transfer and overall performance.

The Wheels

Wheels are perhaps the most critical component of roller hockey skates as they directly affect your speed, grip, and control. Key factors to consider:

• Size — wheel diameter varies depending on the chassis setup

Choosing the right hockey stick involves understanding several factors — from materials and construction to flex, curve, and sizing. The goal is to find a stick that maximizes your potential and matches your playing style.

Materials & Construction

Hockey sticks are constructed using composite materials including graphite, Kevlar, and fiberglass. Lower-priced sticks use more fiberglass, making them heavier but slightly more durable. Higher-end sticks use a greater percentage of graphite and Kevlar, making them significantly lighter and higher-performing.

Manufacturers use different construction methods:

• Compression molding — composite layers pressed onto a steel mold, producing a very consistent shape and feel
• Bladder molding — composite material molded over an inflated bladder, which may have slight inconsistencies
• True spear technology — blade layers fused directly onto the shaft end, creating excellent energy transfer with no joint or weak spot
• Shaft and blade fusion — shaft and blade joined together and finished with composite layers

Choosing Your Curve

The curve of your blade affects shooting, passing, and puck control:

Curve Position:

• Heel curve — puck travels along the entire blade for better accuracy and harder wrist shots
• Mid curve — the most common choice, offering a balance of puck control and shooting
• Toe curve — flat blade face with a sharp curve at the toe, great for quick slapshots and toe drags but more difficult to control for passing accuracy

Blade Depth refers to how deep the curve is. Blade Angle refers to open face versus closed face — an open face makes it easier to get the puck up quickly, while a closed face is better for controlling and protecting the puck.

Toe Shape:

• Square toe — more blade area for shooting and puck handling
• Round toe — better puck control

Understanding Stick Flex

Flex is one of the most important factors in choosing a stick. You want to be able to fully flex the stick — if it's too soft, your shot will be weak and inaccurate. If it's too stiff, you won't generate power.

• Senior flexes: 75, 85, 95, 100, 110
• Intermediate flexes: 55, 60, 65, 70, 75
• Junior flexes: 40, 45, 50
• Youth flexes: 20, 30, 40

The flex number indicates the pounds of force required to flex the stick one inch. For example, a 100-flex stick requires 100 lbs of force to bend it one inch.

Flex Points:

• Mid-flex (mid kick) — stiffer taper, flexes more in the middle of the shaft. Longer loading time for a more powerful shot — ideal for slapshots
• Low-flex (low kick) — stiffer middle with a softer taper, flexing at the bottom near the blade. Much quicker release — ideal for snap shots and wrist shots

Stick Lie

Lie describes the angle of the blade to the shaft. A 5 lie is a 135-degree angle, and each lie increase reduces the angle by 2 degrees.

• Lower lie — recommended for players who skate bent over or use a longer stick
• Higher lie — recommended for players who skate more upright and prefer a shorter stick

If you notice excessive wear on the heel of your blade, try a lower lie. If the wear is near the toe, try a higher lie.

Grip Options

• Clear finish (no grip) — allows easy hand movement up and down the shaft
• Grip coating — a sticky feel down the shaft for better control while shooting, preventing the stick from twisting on contact
• Raised tactile grip — ridges on the shaft offering added control without limiting hand movement

Grip is entirely personal preference.

Cutting Your Stick & Effects on Flex

A common guideline is to cut the stick to nose height when standing flat-footed, or chin height when on your toes (to simulate being on skates). However, the right length ultimately comes down to personal preference and playing style.

Important: Cutting a stick makes it stiffer. For every inch you cut off, the stick's stiffness increases by approximately 3%. A stick that feels perfect at full length in the store may feel significantly stiffer after cutting. Some manufacturers like Bauer mark the back of the shaft with updated flex ratings at different cut points, so you can see exactly how cutting will affect the flex.

There are many ways to tape a hockey stick blade and handle, and every player eventually develops their own style and preference. Here's a guide to get you started.

Choosing Your Tape

Not all hockey tape is the same. Look for tape that unwinds evenly from the roll and is sturdy enough to resist moisture and abrasion without being too bulky. Tape serves two purposes: it protects the blade from chips and puck marks, and it gives you a better "puck feel" when receiving passes and taking shots.

The most common type is cloth hockey tape, and while patterned tapes exist, the most widely used at higher skill levels are black or white:

• White tape on the blade — allows you to see the puck clearly against the blade
• Black tape on the blade — used by experienced players to camouflage the puck, making it harder for opponents and the goalie to track
• Goalies — always use white tape on the blade of their paddle because they need to see where the puck is

For the handle, white tape is less likely to leave marks on the palm of your hockey gloves than black tape. Otherwise, handle tape colour is personal preference.

Taping the Blade

1. Hold the stick with the blade front facing you in your non-dominant hand
2. Start at the heel of the blade and work toward the toe — going in this direction keeps the tape lying flat on the bottom for a smooth surface on the ice
3. Affix the end of the tape on the backside of the blade, bring the roll over the top and down the front
4. Continue circling over and around the blade, keeping even tension on the roll and overlapping each layer by about 1/4 inch
5. Stop when you have about 2 inches of blade left showing at the toe

The most important thing is to apply the tape as smoothly as possible — no wrinkles or bumps. Wrinkles on the bottom create friction on the ice, and bumps on the face can cause unpredictable puck bounces.

Taping the Handle

1. Start at the very end of the shaft and wrap around several times to create a knob — this prevents the stick from slipping through your glove. Players only need a small bump, but goalies need a much larger knob to reduce the chances of dropping the stick at a crucial moment
2. From the knob, spiral down the shaft in the same overlapping fashion as the blade, covering each layer by about 1/4 inch
3. End the tape once you've reached approximately 1.5 glove lengths down the shaft — this leaves your lower hand free to slide on the shaft easily

Adding a Grip Ridge (Optional)

Some players add an extra grip texture to their handle:

1. Pull out about 3 feet of tape and let the roll hang to create weight
2. Twirl the tape to create a rope
3. Apply this rope in a loose coil starting from the bottom of where you want the grip, winding up toward the top
4. Tape over the rope in the normal overlapping fashion back down the shaft

This gives you more grip on the stick but will interfere with the ability to slide your hands along the shaft. It's a trade-off based on personal preference.

When to Re-Tape

Remove and reapply tape when it shows wear, especially on the bottom of the blade. For new players, this could be every few games. For elite players, this could be during a game.

• Dry your skates thoroughly after each use to prevent odors and moisture damage to the boot
• Pull out the footbeds every time you dry them — this allows airflow inside the boot and prevents excessive rusting of the rivets
• Use a towel to wipe down your blades before putting on soakers or guards to protect the steel during storage

Blade Maintenance

• Regularly check your blades for nicks and damage caused by dirty flooring, concrete, or exposed screws at the rink
• Walk on rubber mats whenever possible and avoid walking on concrete or metal surfaces in your skates
• If you feel like you're slipping during push-off, it's time for a sharpening
